Tyler Harlow is a bassist, composer, and arranger intent on bringing light into the world through inventive and adventurous music. While remaining deeply rooted the jazz tradition, Tyler’s voice as a composer and improviser is also unique and innovative; saturated with compelling melodies, infectious rhythms and intricate harmonies that cultivate an engaging atmosphere of contagious creativity. Tyler’s versatile expertise and expressive musicality has gained him notoriety not only as a thoughtful and supportive sideman, but also as an exceptional creative force as a composer and band-leader. While based in San Francisco, Tyler’s schedule is filled by performing with both the city’s most respected musicians, and touring musicians from New York City, Europe and beyond. Playing with luminaries such as Romain Pilon, Wayne Tucker, Dann Zinn, Tony Miceli, Anthony Smith, Marcos Silva, Erik Jekabson, Kari Ikonen, Alex Monfort, Shay Salhov, Dahveed Behroozi, Greg Glassman, and Smith Dobson III; has led him to play at many notable venues such as the SFJAZZ Center Joe Henderson Lab, Blue Note in Napa, Black Cat, Cafe Stritch, The California Jazz Conservatory, Art Boutiki, and the Filmore Jazz Festival. Appearing on six studio albums and in numerous live videos, Tyler’s growing discography encompasses a plethora of genres, spanning modern jazz and avant-garde to soul and reggae. Tyler has been featured as an ‘Emerging Artist’ by Jazz in the Neighborhood, was apart of the award-winning California Jazz Conservatory Advanced Combo, and has been on faculty at the prestigious Stanford Jazz Workshop.
